DeCA mandatory in Spain: three customer stories
As of 5 October 2026, the Documento Electrónico de Control Administrativo (DeCA) is mandatory for domestic road freight transport in Spain. In the event of an inspection, carriers and their drivers are required to work digitally. Paper documents are no longer permitted for domestic transport. That is why we have expanded our e-CMR solution with DeCA functionality.
This requirement accelerated digitalisation for both existing and new customers. Together with our partners, we activated their DeCA processes over the past few weeks. These three customer stories show how we approached this. Royal A-Ware and Smurfit Westrock have set a new record: they implemented our solution in just three weeks.

Smurfit Westrock
Smurfit Westrock: three factories connected in three weeks
At Smurfit Westrock, we implemented the DeCA process in just three weeks. Thanks to the existing SAP integration, the implementation team could build on the available connection and quickly activate the digital workflow. This enabled us to connect three factories to the DeCA process within a short period. A clear deadline and close collaboration made this possible—a concrete next step in the digitalisation of their transport documents.

Royal A-Ware
Fast track for digital document management
At Royal A-Ware, we also implemented the DeCA process within three weeks. We made the required transport data available from the Infor M3 environment, so it could be used straight away to create digital DeCA documents. This connects the document process to the existing ERP environment and reduces duplicate data entry. Making this data available also laid the groundwork for the further use of e-CMR. The new legal requirement therefore accelerated not only the introduction of DeCA, but also the wider digitalisation of transport documents.

Trainsa / Transportes Iniestenses
Trainsa / Iniestenses: activated with ZF Digital Solutions
In Spain, we activated the DeCA process for carrier Trainsa / Iniestenses together with our partner ZF Digital Solutions. By working together on the necessary steps, we made the process available for their Spanish operations. It is a great example of how collaboration between carriers and technology partners can enable a swift implementation.
